Park University Launches Mobile Phone Program
Park University in Parkville, MO has entered into a partnership with Rave Wireless and Sprint Nextel to launch a mobile phone program for its campuses, which span 21 states. As part of the deal, Rave will provide its academic applications on the phones, while Sprint will extend its wireless network to cover the university's campuses.
Also as part of the deal, Park will work with Rave to integrate its computer systems with its mobile phone system to provide students with access to class and administrative information around the clock.
"In today's virtual world, Park has excelled at using technology to significantly increase the number of students benefiting from our academic programs through extensive online and distance learning programs," said Sara Freeman, CIO of Park University, in a prepared statement. "The partnership between Park University, Rave Wireless, and Sprint will bring together the expertise of three technology leaders that will result in an unprecedented mobile program that unifies our students and provides enhanced academic opportunities on their preferred devices, regardless of the Park program in which they're enrolled."
With the new system, faculty members will be able to integrate mobile learning applications into their curricula, including assessments, course changes, and other applications. The university's eCollege eCompanion system will also be integrated into the mobile system. Students will also be able to use the phones on an opt-in basis as safety devices that can be monitored by campus police.
Park University serves more than 25,000 students annually on 43 campuses in 21 states and also offers distance learning options.
