Norfolk, VA-based Centric CRM has changed its name to Concursive Corporation to reflect the evolution of the company's product line to beyond customer relationship management (CRM) functionality. The company also released Concourse Suite 5.0, the latest version of it flagship product. The suite combines traditional CRM features with Web authoring, content management, and Web 2.0 collaboration technologies (such as wikis and blogs).

The state of Louisiana has selected Omnilert's e2Campus communications system for use as an emergency notification platform for higher education. Through the State Contract for Emergency Notification Services, Louisiana colleges and universities will be able to purchase the system without the need for an additional RFP, according to Omnilert.

Microsoft Revamps Education Licensing

Microsoft's subscription licensing programs for education, collectively known as the Campus Agreement and School Agreement (CASA), now offer two additional benefits--home usage and evaluation rights--as well as several other changes in the areas of license renewal, buyouts, prorating, and other program terms.

IBM alphaWorks Expands Web Services

IBM has added two new Web services to its alphaWorks Web site, which provides "sneak previews" of the kind of technologies that are being contemplated at IBM research and development labs. Norton AntiVirus 11 Adds Leopard Support, 'Vulnerability Protection'

Symantec this week released a full-version update to its Norton AntiVirus suite for Mac OS X. The latest version incorporates support for Mac OS X ("Leopard") and adds a new feature called "Vulnerability Protection," which is designed to guard against infections from applications connected to the Internet. The company has also updates its Norton Confidential for Mac to support Leopard.

Microsoft Releases Office 2007 Service Pack 1 Early

A year after its initial release, Microsoft this week announced it is shipping the first Service Pack for Office 2007. Office System Service Pack 1, originally expected in early 2008, improves stability, performance, and security, according to Office product manager Reed Shaffner.

Red Hat Bundles Tooling and Runtime in New JBoss IDE

Red Hat today began shipping a new application integrated development environment (IDE) that combines both tooling and runtime. JBoss Developer Studio Eclipse is an Eclipse-based IDE bundled with the JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Network. It also includes tooling for Java EE, the JBoss Seam app framework, AJAX, Hibernate, Persistence, JBoss jPBM, Struts and the Spring IDE.

Microsoft Rolls Out Office Live Workspace Beta

Microsoft has begun a full rollout of the private beta of its Live Office Workspace. OLW, unveiled earlier this year, is a Web-based feature of Microsoft Office that allows for collaboration and sharing of documents. The technologies included in OLW have already been rolled into Microsoft's Live@edu, a portal, communications, and collaboration suite for education.

Duke Law School Reports Social Security Numbers Exposed

Duke University Law School alerted about 1,400 people whose Social Security numbers were stored on a school website that it was illegally accessed, the school reported. School administrators said they were contacting affected people as a precaution but did not know whether the records were accessed.

Facebook Founder Loses Court Battle Over Personal Docs

A federal judge has denied a petition by Facebook Inc. to force a Harvard alumni magazine to take down documents pertaining to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's founder, the Associated Press reported. The documents, including Zuckerberg's Harvard College application, a personal diary, and an e-mail he wrote to the college admissions office, are part of a court battle between Facebook and ConnectU, a social networking site founded by Harvard students where Zuckerberg worked before he went on to found Facebook.

Windows Server 2008, Vista SP1 Hit RC Milestone

Microsoft Wednesday continued its hand in hand development of Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista's first service pack, publishing release candidates (RC) for each product. The big updates in Windows 2008 RC1 revolve around enhancements to Group Policy, a management framework first introduced in Windows 2000 Server. Group Policy Preferences, as it has been renamed, was formerly known as PolicyMaker Standard Edition and Policy Share Manager.

SWsoft has released an update for its virtualization software for Mac OS X, Parallels Desktop. The latest build (3.0 build 5582) brings full support for Mac OS X 10.5 ("Leopard"). It also brings various other, minor enhancements added since the previous build, released at the end of November. The company has also shipped a new suite called Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac Premium Edition, which bundles the core virtualization software with various Windows utilities.
