Education technology developer Saba this week debuted a new solution it describes as an "enterprise social networking platform." The new system, Saba Social, is designed to extend Saba's collaboration platform and provide a vehicle for delivering and capturing informal, peer-to-peer learning and knowledge exchange.

The University of Connecticut (UConn) selected Rave Wireless' Rave Alert as its emergency notification platform after conducting an evaluation and comparison of vendors. Concerns about the performance and reliability of its previous emergency notification provider, a Connecticut state-approved provider, prompted UConn to conduct the competitive evaluation.

Group Logic has released an update to ExtremeZ-IP, a connectivity solution for Mac systems running in Windows environments. The new 5.3 release adds support for Windows Server 2008 and includes a number of general fixes and enhancements.

The IT staff at Johns Hopkins University has completed a collaborative project with Unicon for an upgrade to the uPortal 3 open source enterprise portal. uPortal is a free, sharable portal under development by institutions of higher education. It's built using Java, XML, JSP, and J2EE.

Sony this week announced two new models in its SRX line of 4K SXRD-based projectors. The new models--the SRX-T110 and SRX-T105--offer enhanced brightness and contrast over previous 4K models and are targeted toward high-end projection environments, including simulations, lecture hall and auditorium presentations, and film and video production.
