Strathmore University in Nairobi has turned on its implementation of the Kuali Financial System, making the Kenyan university the first institution to go live with the much-anticipated open source financials.

At colleges, universities, and K-12 institutions, IT decision makers are increasingly showing concern over performance, patching, and hardware requirements of Microsoft Windows Vista. At the same time, the number of organizations using or evaluating Vista has increased to 29 percent, up 8 percent since October 2006. This according to a new survey conducted by Walker Information and released this week by CDW Corp.

ConnectEdu Inc., a Web-based college planning service, and Rediker Software Inc., a school student management system, have teamed to export student data directly into the college planning, admissions, and financial aid platform. The partners claim the result will integrate high school systems with community colleges, colleges, and universities, as well as provide entirely electronic college transcripts and application materials.
