Smart Technologies last week unveiled updates to its Smart Board 600i interactive whiteboard system. The new lineup includes both a standard 4:3 and a widescreen 16:10 model, each featuring new boom-mounted, short-throw projectors.

Hodges University has reported a 250 percent increase in online enrollment following its adoption of the Tegrity Campus 2.0 service, a class capture Web service for higher education. Hodges deployed Tegrity in fall 2007 in an effort to provide more flexible learning tools to help students boost academic achievement.

Mitsubishi is expanding its 500-series of digital classroom projectors with two new wide-format models: the WD510U and the WD500U-ST. The WD500U-ST is a short-throw projector designed specifically for whiteboard applications and other environments where space may be limited.

New Mexico's Innovative Digital Education and Learning program (IDEAL-NM) has selected the Wimba Collaboration Suite to pilot as its statewide collaborative learning platform. IDEAL-NM will deploy Wimba's in its statewide network of K-12 and higher education institutions, which includes 89 districts and 22 college campuses, to enhance student engagement and collaboration and increase learning outcomes.

Software developer Panopto is reporting that it has partnered with Automatic Sync Technologies to integrate closed captioning into its CourseCast lecture capture system. The solution was developed jointly on behalf of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, which is using the system to capture, caption, and publish classroom presentations.

Panopto this week announced a new software as a service (SaaS) version of its lecture capture system, CourseCast. Dubbed CourseCast Hosted, the new edition is designed for educational institutions to capture classroom presentations without the need to invest in the kind of infrastructure generally associated with lecture capture systems.

Humble Daisy has released an update to ProfCast, a software application designed for capturing and distributing classroom lectures as enhanced podcasts. ProfCast 2.2.1b2, a public beta of the presentation capture software, includes fixes and enhancements to previous releases and is available now for Mac OS X.

Students at the Arizona State University (ASU) Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering now have access to more online lectures than any other university in the country, according to Sonic Foundry, the company that provides the Webcasting platform the school uses. The school recently recorded its 10,000th lecture.

According to the company, the update facilitates communication and collaboration among students, faculty, IT/ET staff, and campus administrators within and between institutions. Sony recently announced two new models in its VPL line of LCD-based projectors for education. The new models--the VPL-FX41and VPL-FX41L--offer higher light output than other models in the VPL-F series (the FX40/L and FE40/L) and are designed to support networked fixed installations.

Sony this week announced two new models in its SRX line of 4K SXRD-based projectors. The new models--the SRX-T110 and SRX-T105--offer enhanced brightness and contrast over previous 4K models and are targeted toward high-end projection environments, including simulations, lecture hall and auditorium presentations, and film and video production.

Villanova University in Pennsylvania has expanded its on campus use of the Rise Vision Display Network to create a networked, campus-wide information system. Villanova uses the digital signage content management system on 15 LCD screens, with plans to add another 30 screens, for displaying information about emergency notifications, campus events, and schedules, Villanova also sells advertising to local merchants that accept the school's Wildcard debit card.
