Promethean and Simtrol have announced an exclusive partnership that will integrate device management software from Simtrol with Promethean's Activeclassroom technology. The partnership will give classroom teachers the ability to control a variety of separate devices from a single interface on Promethean's Activeboard, doing away with the need for multiple remote controls.

A number of colleges have gone public with their deployments of the NComputing multiuser system, among them Fresno Pacific University in Central California, Florida Atlantic University in southeast Florida; and Palm Beach Community College in Florida. The NComputing access device allows a single PC to serve multiple users, each with his or her own monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Panopto has released CourseCast 2.0, an update to the company's classroom capture system that's available free to academic users. CourseCast 2.0 had previously been available as part of Panopto's beta program for educators since June.

NEC this week introduced two new single-chip DLP projectors that it will ship in the fall. The NP41 and NP61 are both mobile models, weighing in at 3.5 pounds, but offering brightness ratings of up to 3,000 ANSI lumens.

At the Campus Technology 2008 conference being held this week in Boston, TechSmith launched a limited beta of its new lecture capture system, Camtasia Relay. The beta is open to the first 100 institutions that sign up for it.

Lumens Integration this week debuted a new document camera and presentation system called the DC260 SXGA Digital Visual Presenter. The new gooseneck-style system is the first in Lumens' document camera lineup to support HD output via HDMI.

Ohio State University in Columbus said it will be installing Smart Technologies products--including interactive whiteboards--in its Digital Union, a four-year-old leading-edge research and education facility. The Digital Union, a joint initiative between the Office of the CIO and the university libraries, offers a place for faculty and students to work with new education technology products in order to assess their potential for enhancing teaching and learning.

Sonic Foundry debuted a new version of its lecture capture platform Thursday at the InfoComm and EduComm conferences in Las Vegas. Mediasite 5.0 adds about 100 new or enhanced features for recording, playing back, and managing classroom recordings. The company also announced new hardware recorders for automated lecture capture, which are scheduled to ship next month.

Canon this week introduced the first LCoS-based WUXGA projector, providing a 16:10 aspect ratio with a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 for displaying high-def images slightly beyond 1080p. The company also introduced a new LCoS-based SXGA+ multimedia projector, which is shipping this month.
