Luidia has released a new version its eBeam software for use with classroom-based interactive projection environments. eBeam Interact 2.1 offers both new and upgraded features, including enhanced screen recording and a comprehensive online image gallery, as well as the company's Scrapbook Image Writer feature.

Promethean and Simtrol have announced an exclusive partnership that will integrate device management software from Simtrol with Promethean's Activeclassroom technology. The partnership will give classroom teachers the ability to control a variety of separate devices from a single interface on Promethean's Activeboard, doing away with the need for multiple remote controls.

A number of colleges have gone public with their deployments of the NComputing multiuser system, among them Fresno Pacific University in Central California, Florida Atlantic University in southeast Florida; and Palm Beach Community College in Florida. The NComputing access device allows a single PC to serve multiple users, each with his or her own monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Panopto has released CourseCast 2.0, an update to the company's classroom capture system that's available free to academic users. CourseCast 2.0 had previously been available as part of Panopto's beta program for educators since June.

NEC this week introduced two new single-chip DLP projectors that it will ship in the fall. The NP41 and NP61 are both mobile models, weighing in at 3.5 pounds, but offering brightness ratings of up to 3,000 ANSI lumens.

At the Campus Technology 2008 conference being held this week in Boston, TechSmith launched a limited beta of its new lecture capture system, Camtasia Relay. The beta is open to the first 100 institutions that sign up for it.

Ed tech developer eInstruction has released Workspace-ExamView Edition, a new version of the Workspace digital classroom suite that couples ExamView's assessment tools with interactive classroom technologies, such as clickers and whiteboards.

Lumens Integration this week debuted a new document camera and presentation system called the DC260 SXGA Digital Visual Presenter. The new gooseneck-style system is the first in Lumens' document camera lineup to support HD output via HDMI.

Sony has its eye on the education market. The company recently launched a new program, called "Eye on Education," aimed at providing discounts, support, and other benefits to K-12 schools and post-secondary institutions on its displays and projectors.

Ohio State University in Columbus said it will be installing Smart Technologies products--including interactive whiteboards--in its Digital Union, a four-year-old leading-edge research and education facility. The Digital Union, a joint initiative between the Office of the CIO and the university libraries, offers a place for faculty and students to work with new education technology products in order to assess their potential for enhancing teaching and learning.

Sonic Foundry debuted a new version of its lecture capture platform Thursday at the InfoComm and EduComm conferences in Las Vegas. Mediasite 5.0 adds about 100 new or enhanced features for recording, playing back, and managing classroom recordings. The company also announced new hardware recorders for automated lecture capture, which are scheduled to ship next month.

The Presentation Products Division for Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America announced at InfoComm Wednesday a series of new products to be added to their line of digital projectors, including the XD500U-ST and the XD530U short-throw models.

NEC Display Solutions of America this week announced the addition of two network projectors to its product line. The NP905 and the NP901 W installation projectors are designed for classrooms and corporate conference rooms.

At the Infocomm 2008 conference in Las Vegas this week, Toshiba debuted three new mobile projectors and two conference room projectors, including a wireless model with Windows Vista networking capabilities.

Starting Wednesday at the Infocomm 2008 conference, being held this week in Las Vegas, InFocus will be showing off three new classroom and lecture hall projector series, along with new technologies designed to connect projectors wirelessly and to simplify connections between laptops and projectors using a computer's USB port for delivering video to the projector.

Smart Technologies this week introduced a new classroom audio system. Dubbed "Smart Audio," the system provides wireless audio (using both microphones and third-party audio devices, such as MP3/4 players), along with integration with Smart interactive whiteboard systems.

Canon this week introduced the first LCoS-based WUXGA projector, providing a 16:10 aspect ratio with a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 for displaying high-def images slightly beyond 1080p. The company also introduced a new LCoS-based SXGA+ multimedia projector, which is shipping this month.

HP this week announced the recipients of its 2008 HP Technology for Teaching grant program. Thirty-nine colleges and universities and 110 K-12 schools will be receiving more than $7 million in cash, gear, and professional development.

Interactive classroom technology provider DyKnow this week released an update to its DyKnow Software Suite. The new release, version 5.1, includes updates to both components of the suite, DyKnow Vision and DyKnow Monitor, along with general administrative enhancements.
