- Louisiana Opts for e2Campus for Emergency Notifications

The state of Louisiana has selected Omnilert's e2Campus communications system for use as an emergency notification platform for higher education. Through the State Contract for Emergency Notification Services, Louisiana colleges and universities will be able to purchase the system without the need for an additional RFP, according to Omnilert.

Higher education mobile services provider Rave Wireless has joined the SunGard Higher Education Collaborative and said it will provide mobile services, including alerts and collaborative technologies, for SunGard customers. The SunGard HE Collaborative is a network of companies whose stated aim is to help "colleges and universities build and manage reliable, integrated solutions that extend and enhance a unified digital campus."

The market for mobile educational gaming will more than triple by 2012, according to a new forecast released late last week by research firm Ambient Insight. Demand for mobile educational gaming will expand at a compound annual growth rate of 26.5 percent over the next five years, with annual revenues expected to hit $185 million by 2012, up from the current $57 million.

A new text messaging service set up by the University of Colorado at Boulder saw an enormous spike in enrollment following a stabbing on campus, Monday, Aug. 27. About 30 minutes after the incident, staff used the system to alert students. This service was launched as recently as Aug. 23 of this year.

Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana is deploying a new emergency alert system for its Indianapolis campus. The system will be used to "instantly notify students and staff in the Indianapolis metro area of emergencies, weather alerts, closings, and even class-related information," according to a release issued by Ivy Tech.
